A healthy ocean is essential to the wellbeing and prosperity of coastal communities. From fisheries and tourism to small businesses and other livelihood activities, our coastal economy is closely connected to the health of our marine and shoreline ecosystems. This makes keeping our beaches clean and protecting our ocean a responsibility we must share. On International Coastal Cleanup Day, Dabaso Youth for Green Future joined hands with community members, fishermen, cowrie sellers, tourism operators, conservation partners, and other local stakeholders for a coordinated beach cleanup. Together, we removed an impressive 3,086 kilograms of waste from our coastline. The activity was more than a cleanup. It was an opportunity to bring different actors together, raise awareness about responsible waste management, and strengthen community ownership of the coastal environment. At DYGF, we believe that young people and coastal communities have an important role to play in building a sustainable Blue Economy. Through practical action, awareness, partnerships, and community-led conservation, we continue working towards healthier ecosystems and more resilient coastal livelihoods. Our coastline sustains us. Let us all play our part in protecting it.
